Alexandra is located in the junction of the Goulburn valley highway and Maroondah Highway in Victoria.
The town was first named as Redgate or Red Gate Digglings. The present name is derived from Alexandra of Denmark and some people also say that it is named after three men who discovered gold in this place ,Alexander: Alesander, McGregor and Alexander Don.
This town is rich in cultural heritage and has various historical sites that take back to the visitors to the olden days. One can spends a leisure vacation at this place, far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. As far as events are concerned this city hosts many festivals throughout the year and the events take place at the center of the town that is at Grant Street.
Set in the midst of greenery this place has a population of 2141 according to 2000 census.
