The Latrobe Valley, which is famous for its immense resources of brown coal, is cuddled between the Strzelecki Ranges and the Great Dividing Range in Victoria. The valley got its name after the name of the river ‘Latrobe’. The valley has a moist climate and is fertile. The valley is enriched with potato farms, cattle farms, and dairy farms. February is the valley’s warmest month and July the coldest. During winter and spring, the valley gets a maximum rain of 800mm. 85% of Victoria’s electricity is provided by the Latrobe Valley. 67,000 is the approximate population of the valley. There are many power projects in and around Latrobe Valley and one among them is the Hazelwood Power Station. One of the major airports of the valley is the Latrobe Valley Airport. Latrobe City is a major city in the valley, which includes the cities of Morwell, Moe and Traralgon. The city has a population of 69,329 as per the 2006 census.
