Victoria has an area of 237,629 sq km and a population of around 5 million. Its capital city is Melbourne. Victoria is a state located in the south-eastern corner of Australia. It is the smallest mainland state and is bordered by the Murray River in the north and South Australia in the west. The state lies at the southern end of the Great Dividing Range and shares the country’s shortest border with Tasmania. Victoria has a diverse topography with river systems and alpine areas. Victorians like living life at a comfortable pace, and the state is known for its entertainment, cuisine, arts, festivals and a passion for the great outdoors. Its capital Melbourne is said to be a true multicultural city as it is home to many international communities including the third-largest Greek community in the world. Migrants from Europe, Asia and the Middle East also form sizeable numbers of the population.
