Sale can be described as one of the cathedral cities located in Victoria, Australia; within ‘Shire of Wellington’.
Oil had been discovered offshore in this city in the year 1965. As such, the town experienced boom period after having become residential and service base of Esso-BHP gas and oil exploration as well as development program. Unprocessed gas and oil are pumped via 700 Km of ‘undersea’ pipes towards Longford, at the distance of 19 Km on the southern side of Sale. At this place, hydrocarbons get removed and then used for producing ethane and LPG. Gas is then piped towards Melbourne; with oil to ‘Westernport Bay’. From there onwards, it is passed on to Altona and Geelong. Finally, it’s shipped overseas and interstate from here.
Sports most popular in Sale are cricket, basketball, and Australian rules football.
Gippsland Times is the newspaper operating on the local level in Sale.
