Warrnambool can be described as one of the regional cities located on Victoria’s south-western coast in Australia.
Warrnambool lies within the municipal limits of ‘City of Warrnambool’. It’s at western end with respect to Great Ocean Road. However, it can be reached more quickly along ‘Princes Highway’. Warrnambool stands at the distance of 265 Km from Melbourne (by road as well as rail).
The word ‘Warrnambool’ has been derived from local ‘Indigenous Australians’ name for ‘volcanic cone’. The interpretation goes on to mean several things; inclusive of ‘ample water’, or ‘2 swamps’, or ‘land between 2 rivers’.
The the time of ‘Victorian Gold rush’, Warrnambool went on to become a significant port. As such, it grew rapidly in 1850s, thereby benefiting from Port Fairy’s private ownership.
It should be noted that Warrnambool is connected to remaining part of Victoria by Hopkins Highway and Princes Highway.
