Port Hedland can be referred to as the ‘highest tonnage port’ all over Australia. Moreover, it’s the biggest town within ‘Pilbara region of Western Australia’.
Port Hedland is better known as a deep natural anchorage port ; which had been looked upon as an ideal thing for the shipment of iron ore which has been mined in ranges situated inland (from town). This ore gets moved through railway lines between 4 major deposits of iron ore (on the eastern side) and Port Hedland’s southern side. The other resource activities that are being supported are inclusive of offshore fields of ‘Natural Gas’, salt, livestock, and manganese. Rearing of sheep and cattle was the basic earner of revenue previously with regards to this region. It, however, declined with the passage of time.
The population of Port Hedland has been estimated to be 14000.
Summers are extremely hot. They, however, are likely to be moderated by humid sea-breeze. The period from May to September is the best one to pay a visit.
