Atiu is comprised of almost 28 coral sand beaches out of which the best beach is the Taungaroro. In the South Pacific Handbook, David Stanley describes this beach as one of the best beaches in the Cook Islands. The swimming lagoon at this place may be boisterous or tranquil and calm and this is dependent on the sea. It is possible to surf at this beach.
