Things to Do in Chuuk: attractions to See in Chuuk

Chuuk: Attractions and more...

Chuuk served as a Japanese naval base during World War II, and about a hundred of the Japanese ships and planes lie at the bottom of the lagoon. These vessels now teem with various kinds of marine life and are the chief attraction for tourists—scuba diving and snorkelling are therefore the most popular tourist activities here.

The islands are ideal for those seeking solitude: relax and enjoy the lush greenery or take long walks along the beautiful virgin shore. Alternatively, you could visit a cinema or a hotel discotheque or attend cultural programmes.

Chuuk Liberation Day is held on September 23 every year and is commemorated by sports and cultural events.

Indulge in Chuukese cuisine (yam and breadfruit are staples) or try American and Japanese fare at the local restaurants. Since alcohol is prohibited on the islands, sample their traditional drink, sakau.

And don’t forget to pick up a war club or a love stick as a memento of your visit.
