Vanua Levu is a haven for adventurous souls who prefer rainforest hikes, birdwatching, kayaking and snorkelling. Formed by a volcano, it has numerous dive spots, two of which are world renowned—Rainbow Reef and the Great Sea Reef. April–October is the principal diving season.
Savusavu, with the picturesque Savusavu Bay and volcanic hot springs, is the main attraction of Vanua Levu. It is extremely popular with cruising yachts and is an active centre of trade for the locals.

Nabouwalu near Savusava and Wasavula near Labasa contain interesting archaeological sites. Dakuniba village has some petroglyphs inscribed in rocks. However, it is not known who made these inscriptions or what they mean.
A drive on the 70-mile Hibiscus Highway offers some of the most unspoiled scenery in the South Pacific, while the trans-insular road across Labasa offers a breathtaking view of indigenous rainforest.
