Tourist Guide Lomaiviti
The Lomaiviti Archipelago is one of the provinces of Fiji’s Eastern Division. Consisting of seven large islands and a number of smaller ones it has a population of approximately 16,200 inhabitants.
The region experiences a tropical maritime climate with barely any seasonal variations throughout the year in terms of temperature. Most of the rainfall occurs in the months of December to April.
In the nineteenth century, three of the primary islands of the archipelago were taken over by the USA against a debt owed by the then king of Fiji.
Most of the islands are made up of coastal villages with farming and fishing being the main sources of livelihood. Local boats are the best way to travel between islands as not all of them have airports.
