Those in employment as journalists and controversial news reporting officials should ensure their visas are in order before visiting the Fiji Islands.
Due to an unstable political situation following a recent military coup, it is advisable to use extreme caution and to stay out of Suva.
Avoid mosquito bites by using a good amount of mosquito repellent when outdoors, especially at dawn or dusk.
Such bites could cause serious illness such as Dengue fever and Elephantitis.
Be careful to eat fish at well established outlets to rule out chances of fish poisoning.
Drowning is common, so stay alert and do not swim at odd hours with no one around.
Dress should be modest and beach wear should be confined to the beach.
Fijians consider the head to be a sacred part of one’s body, so never touch the head of a Fijian with your hand or any other object.
