The Yasawa Islands are primarily a resort destination, and have often been described as ‘paradise on earth’. They have something on offer for all kinds of visitors from those on limited ‘backpacker’ budgets to those seeking luxurious top-notch resorts. The more extravagant resorts tend to be situated along beaches and offer all modern amenities. Several outdoor activities such as trekking and biking, and water sports such as swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving are on offer.
The most common mode of transport around the islands is the MV Yasawa Flyer (also known as the ‘Yellow Boat’), which departs Port Denarau in Nadi daily at 9 am and halts at all the major resorts and islands in the area.
The more upmarket resorts are located on Yasawa, Matacawa Levu, Naviti and Nanuya Lailai, where the well-known movie ‘Blue Lagoon’, starring Brooke Shields, was filmed.
Backpackers tend to prefer accommodation on Nacula, Tavewa, Waya or Kuata.
