Tourist Guide Avatoru
Avatoru is one of the main villages in Rangiroa, a coral atoll in the Tuamotu Archipelago. Located on the northwestern part of the atoll, it is the island’s commercial centre.
With a population of approximately 700 residents, Avatoru provides the tourist a glimpse of village life on an atoll. Avatoru, like most Polynesian Islands, has a tropical climate, with plenty of sunshine. The Pacific Trade winds, keep the temperature cool and ideal for outdoor vacationing.
Most of the atoll’s administration buildings, including the post office and Rangiroa’s airport, are in Avatoru. This village is also home to the atoll’s black pearl industry.
Avatoru is one of the two main villages in Rangiroa, the other one is Tiputa. Both villages have been built on islands and can be reached by a six metre wide road made of tarmac and coral chips.
