From one of our guest on this private tour : "I'm well overdue in writing this, as my husband and I enjoyed our full-day private tour with our guide, Arii, back in September.... but it was good enough to make it worth writing about two months later! After the sting rays, we went outside the reef that surrounds Bora Bora to an area that was about 40-50 feet deep, and Arii again stopped the boat and anchored us up before telling us to jump in and look down... to see 8-foot-long lemon sharks swimming below us! We snorkeled above them for about 20 minutes, since they apparently stay on the bottom of the ocean, and then after seeing them (and several reef sharks who were completely uninterested in us) we went over to the private motu that Moana Adventure Tours owns and enjoyed a few hours on their beach. Arii prepared an incredible spread for us: water, beer, champagne, juices, sodas, shrimp cocktail, salad, poisson cru, toasted bread, halibut, steak, chicken, fresh fruit, and dessert.
We did the private stingray / shark / motu tour on the 23-foot boat and booked directly with Moana, which I'm sure saved us money. We were staying at the FS Bora Bora for the last part of our honeymoon and Stephane was great to work with in coordinating, even calling to see if we wanted to change our tour date to accommodate better weather (we ended up keeping it the same and we were fine). Arii, our guide, arrived promptly at 9:00 AM to pick us up and took us first to a reef / snorkeling area between the motu and the main island, where we hopped in and did some snorkeling. My husband and I had snorkeled there the day prior and seen manta rays and various fish; this time we saw fish, but no mantas. It was almost more difficult snorkeling just the two of us, since we didn't know where to look for the mantas. However, since we'd seen them the day prior we weren't upset about not seeing them, though I think my husband was a little concerned this tour was going to be just a more expensive version of our snorkeling tour from the day prior.
That stop, though, was the only one that over-lapped. We told Arii we'd done some of the other snorkeling stops the day prior, so he took us around the island out to the coral reef border, then over to a shallow area, where the water was probably about waist-to-chest deep, and looking into the water you could see dozens of sting rays and small reef sharks swimming about. We anchored the boat and got ready and jumped in - my husband had never snorkeled with sting rays before, but I'd done it several times so I knew how incredible it was.
My husband LOVED this part of the tour - I'm sure it was his favorite, and I had so much fun watching him. He got over the initial fear about jumping in with the sting rays and before long he was feeding them fish from Arii's bucket, snorkeling around with them, petting them, having them climb up his back and arms, and just having a great time. The best part about being out there with Arii is that - unlike when I'd snorkeled with sting rays (in Grand Cayman), we were the ONLY TWO people in the water. It was incredible! Other boats came and went, but since it was our private tour we were able to stay as long as we wanted.
The overall day was just incredible - well worth the money, though it was expensive, to have such a memorable experience on our honeymoon. I will never forget how much my husband enjoyed snorkeling with the sting rays and the lovely day and afternoon we spent with Arii. Should we return to Bora Bora, we'll absolutely book another tour with Moana Adventure Tours... if you're going to Bora Bora, my only advice for you is to make sure you contact Stephane now!"
