French Polynesia’s economy is moderately developed and is dependent on the imported goods, tourism and financial assistance from mainland France. Apart from tourism, pearl farming and deep-sea commercial fishing are important sources of income.

French Polynesia is one of the most expensive destinations in the South Pacific. Most of the goods available are imported and are subjected to high indirect taxes and import duties. Thus, none of it is understandably cheap.
