Known as the walkway capital of New Zealand, a number of walks are available in Nelson. The Nelson Lakes National Parks, located at the northern end of the Southern Alps, is famous for its natural beauty and a host of other attractions.
Nelson also has a number of vineyards which produce world class wine; these vineyards are also known for there natural beauty. A must-visit is Grape Escape which has almost everything from great dining options to shopping arenas.
The city also boasts of a number of art, music and food festivals. The Nelson Arts Festival has much to offer to all art lovers, be it dance, writing and so forth. Another famous festival is the Taste Nelson Festival.
Nelson offers several water sports option. With its beautiful beaches and calm waters, the city is a haven for those who are interested in swimming, kayaking, fishing and boating.
At a little distance from Nelson is Rabbit Island, the most popular picnic spot in the region.
