Sky Tower
Rating:
|
The tallest tower in the southern hemisphere, standing at 328 meters, is the Sky Tower in Auckland which provides scintillating views for a radius of 80+ kilometres.
The foundation of the tower goes down more than 15 meters below ground level, giving it an immensely strong anchor. The tower has a circular observatory open to the public on three different levels.
The Sky Deck, the Main Observation Level and the Sky Lounge each offer a lovely 360 degree view of Auckland.
There are three elevators that can take about 225 people to the observatory level inside 40 seconds. For those who want to climb to the top, 1,267 steps take you from the base to the top of the tower.
The construction of the tower is of the highest standards so that it is strong and resistant to high winds and, to an extent, also to earthquakes.
During its construction seven satellites were used to give a daily real time reading of the vertical correctness of the tower.
