Hastings, the administrative hub of the district is situated inland from Napier city. The distance between Napier city and Hastings city is only 20 km, therefore these two are often recognized as ‘The Twin Cities’ or ‘The Bay Cities’. Hastings lost its city status during the year 1989 on the blend with Clive, Waimarama and Havelock North. The entire Hastings District hosts Flaxmere, Hastings city and Havelock North.
