Lake has an astronomical observatory situating at Mount John and it lies to the north of the city and south of the lake Alexandrina. Another important tourist place in Lake Tekapo is the ‘Church of the Good Shepherd’ built on the coasts of Lake Tekapo. It is the first church made in the Mackenzie Basin during 1935. Without any controversy one can say that this church is the most photographed tourist place in New Zealand. The church contains an altar window which frames the mind blowing views of mountains and lakes.
