One hour south from Paihia is the famous Poor Knights Islands and the beautiful untouched Tutukaka Coast.
With 26 beaches on the coast, from pristine white sand to rocky inlets, to surf beaches, all gaze out to the Poor Knights Islands on the horizon.
An icon on the coast, these islands are World Heritage listed, and are a complete marine and nature reserve.
Visited by boat only, the archpelago contains arches, and tunnels, big enough for boats to pass through, and the World's largest sea cave.
Birdlife, fish life, dolphins and whales, seals, gannet colonies and endemic flora abound.
A mecca for divers, but also for sightseers, passengers, snorkelling and kayaking trips available.
