Rotorua: Attractions and more...
The Te Arawa people of Roturoa are famous for their hospitality. Consequently, visitors to this city can glimpse performances and displays of the Māori culture and its traditions and artefacts.
With eleven major lakes including Lake Rotorua, this region is a prime trout fishing spot. Roturoa is a major spa and wellness centre and offers a variety of natural spa treatments for relaxation and rejuvenation. Travellers can also avail of several tours and visit the spouting geysers, acrid-smelling mud pools, and multi-coloured, warm geothermal pools and ponds in this area.
The region also abounds in wildlife reserves such as that in the Sulphur Bay area of Lake Rotorua. The Government Gardens in the city comprise a major recreational area.
Other points of interest include the Arawa Soldiers Memorial and the award-winning Roturoa Museum; adventurous sightseers can take scenic flights over volcanic craters or indulge in mountain-biking.
