Although Taupo is a small town, it has plenty of activities and attractions to offer. Also, being situated by a lake, it has mesmerizing scenic beauty and is ideal for exploration.
The Tongariro National Park is famous for its geysers, mud pools and floating pumice rocks. Some of the geothermal sites worth visiting are Orakei Korako, WairakeiValley and Karapiti. The Pureora Forest Park houses some of the rarest wildlife in the world.
Taupo also has a Volcanic Activity Centre where information about local volcanoes is made available. The Regional Museum and Art Gallery has some excellent collections of Taupo’s magnificent history and is worth a visit. The town also boasts of its own version of the Jurassic Park, the Spa Dinosaur Valley, a great place for kids as well as grown-ups.
Apart from this, Taupo also has many adventure options. From jet-skiing to rock climbing and much more, the town also has a lot in store for those who love adventure.
