Wellington Zoo is the oldest zoo of New Zealand and forms an integral part of New Zealand’s heritage. It's one of the main attractions in Wellington as well.
Wellington Zoo is ideally located on the slope of a forested hill. It houses animals of endangered species and the native wildlife.
The reason which makes this place a must-see for tourists is the exclusive Kiwi House. The Kiwi actually run around free and you can hear them squawking.
The African Savannah exhibit has antelope species with zebras, ostrich and giraffes. The Monkey Island houses capuchin monkeys and gibbons.
Cubs of the rare Sumatran Tiger, born at in captivity at the zoo can be seen at the Sumatran Tiger exhibit. Three sun bears with a cub are to be seen at the Malayan Sun Bear exhibition.
As a part of the “Close Encounter” programme, get a close view of exotic animals like cheetahs, Red Pandas, Giraffes, Lions and Tigers.
Visitors can also meet the one-legged kiwi Tahi, an unofficial mascot for the Wellington Zoo.
