Saipan: Attractions and more...
Saipan is famous worldwide for its amazing burnt orange flame trees and turquoise
beaches where you can practise any kind of water sport you dream off. Specially
the Blue Grotto, with its blue tunnel leading into the ocean is a must for divers
and sightseers who don't mind the long, steep stairway down to the water.
There are also numerous cultural events throughout the year, as the Flame Tree
Arts festival or the Saipan Laguna Regatta.
Attractions on Saipan include the last command post of the Japanese Imperial
Army known as Banadero, with World War II cannons, tanks and artillery preserved
in a limestone cave.
Surely worth a visit are also the Okinawa Peace Memorial and the impressive
Banzai and Suicide Cliffs where Japanese soldiers and families leapt to their
deaths to avoid capture.
