Apia is the capital city of Samoa, an idyllic island nation in the South Pacific Ocean. The islands of Samoa are generally known as the ‘Treasured Islands’ because of their tropical climate, pristine beaches, spectacular rainforests and unique natural features such as waterfalls, volcanoes and mountains.
Apia is located on a natural harbour near the Vaisigano River. The best time to visit is the dry season, which lasts from May to October. The city is home to approximately 40,000 residents, most of which are Samoan.
Samoa’s economy relies primarily on fisheries and agriculture, and its main exports are fish and coconut-based products, such as coconut cream and copra. It is also a popular tourist destination, and all tourists arriving by air fly into Faleolo International Airport, located 35 km from Apia.
