Rating: |
Obelisco is a modern structure built in 1936 to honour the 400th anniversary of the city of Buenos Aires.
It is located in the heart of the city at Republic Square known as Plaza de la Republica at the junction of the Corientes avenue and Nueve de Julio.
It is here that the flag of Argentina was flown for the first time.
This monolith is a common meeting place for musical performances, political demonstrations and celebrations at national levels.
The structure stands seventy meters in height and has two hundred steps in the interior of the complex.
At night the Obelisk is lit up by white lights and the colorful glow of the neon billboards in its vicinity.
The monument was built in thirty one days by 167 workers and designed by the architect Alberto Prebisch.
The structure originally had a circular shape but was later changed to an oblique elliptical shape.
