San Telmo is one of the oldest neighbourhoods of Buenos Aires. This was a popular district in the 19th century and was inhabited by all the elite families of the city which later shifted to the Recoleta neighbourhood. The ancient houses, restaurants and classic tango music played here display an atmosphere which is typical of the place. The Flea market at Plaza Dorrego is a must among the places to visit in Buenos Aires if you want to purchase antique pieces of art, jewellery, glassware, linen and handicrafts. The cobbled streets and colonial buildings are fascinating and there are some nice bars and restaurants here along with a wide range of boutiques, cafes and parlours. The Museum of Modern Art, the Puppet museum and Orthodox Russian Church are all in the vicinity. The Museo Historico Nacional is an old renovated mansion which displays the history of the country from the 16th century to the present day.
