Tourist Guide Gran Chaco
Gran Chaco is a region in Argentina with an area of approximately 647,500 sq km and a population of around 2,275,462.
Gran Chaco includes the Argentine provinces of Chaco, Formosa and Santiago del Estero. The name ‘Gran Chaco’ comes from Quechua (Native language) meaning ‘Hunting Land’. This region is an arid subtropical region of low forests and savannah-land.
Largely uninhabited, Gran Chaco is populated by indigenous people such as Guaraní, Wichí and Toba. It has also remained a Spanish colony.
