Salta is a bustling city in the north-western region of Argentina. The city with a population of approximately 464,000 inhabitants is nestled within the Lerma Valley at the base of the Andes Mountains.
The overall climate is warm and dry, with maximum rainfall being restricted to the summer months of January and February. During summer, the average temperature is a pleasant 20°C, while during winters it dips down to 11°C.
Salta served as an important military post during the Argentine War of Independence and consequently suffered tremendous damage both in terms of physical appearance and economics.
Today, it is one of the larger and densely populated cities in the country, largely due to the fact that it lies in one of the most fertile regions of Argentina.
