San Antonio de Areco is a city in Buenos Aires province in the eastern part of Argentina. This town with a population of approximately 21,000 inhabitants is nestled in the heart of the Humid Pampas region, along a river bank.
The region has a temperate climate with high humidity throughout the year, especially during the winter. The hottest months of the year are January and February.
The town was founded in 1730 after a chapel was inaugurated here. Along the years the Argentine government has awarded the town the status of a city of historic national interest.
It is one of the oldest settlements in the in the province and appears to still be a very traditional town, one that has held on to its old customs. The gaucho, term for cowboys in South America, way of life is still clearly evident.
