Tourist Guide San Martin de Los Andes
San Martin de Los Andes is a town in the western part of Argentina. The region experiences a continental climate. Summers are moderate while winters are cold. San Martin is located in the more humid part of the province and thus gets heavy rainfall.
This town with a population of approximately 24,000 inhabitants is located at the edge of the Lake Lacar; the lofty peaks of the Andes form its backdrop.
San Martin started off as a military settlement with a primarily agrarian community. Production of vegetables and fruits, cattle rearing and sawmills were the mainstay of the town’s economy.
The creation of the Lanin National Park began attracting visitors which led to the development of the surrounding mountain slopes for skiing and the lake for recreation. Today, San Martin is a typical mountain resort town.
