San Martin is a picturesque mountain town with opportunities for a range of recreational activities in the surrounding mountains in the lake. The town is located within the Lanin National Park which has several trekking and walking trails and is also home to the Lanin volcano.
Chapelco Ski Resort on Mount Chapelco is one of the prime winter attractions owing to facilities for skiing, snow boarding, sled rides etc. The Seven Lake Route goes through San Martin and winds its way through the region covering the sites of six other lakes.
A good way to explore San Martin is the red city bus tour, aboard which the history and culture of the various spots are explained. The First Settlers Museum, which portrays the life of the early settlers of the region, and the License Plates Museum, chronicling Argentine history through changing license plate designs, are worth a visit.
