Santiago del Estero is the capital city of the province of the same name and boasts of being one of the oldest cities in Argentina. Its topography is flat and dusty, with a slight tilt in the direction of northwest-southeast through which the river of the Rio Dulce flows. In some areas the soil contains rocks of quartz, feldspar and limestone. The city has a total area of 136,351 km ² and falls under the Greenwich Mean Time Zone which is GMT-2.
The climate of the city of Santiago del Estero is subtropical, warm and dry. The region is famous in winter due to its warm and sunny days. Summer is hot, and the maximum temperature can be observed at 45 º C. This city can be reached by both air and by land through the National Route N º 34. Even though, the architectural structure of the city comprises characteristics of modern cities, it retains remnants of the colonial style that strongly indicate the origin of the founding year 1553. This feature of the city attracts several tourists.
