Museo Maritimo de Ushuaia in Ushuaia

Located in the former Presidio of Ushuaia (Yaganes and Gobernador Paz ), a penal colony from which the settlement itself took origin, this is actually four museums merged into a single location.  Hosted in the five two-storey pavillions of this former prison you can find infact not only the Maritime Museum, but also the Museum of Maritime Art, the Prison Museum and the Antarctic Museum, offering thus the visitor a complex and varied experience ranging from ocean related art to natural history, anthropology with a large section on the native populations of the area and the history of Ushuaia itself, from its beginning as a penal colony, which include life sized statues of famous inmates. 

The museum has been adapted to be completely accessible to visitor with disabilities, with ramps, wheelchairs available for no charge and tactile displays for the visually impaired.
