Tourist Guide Villa Mercedes
Villa Mercedes is located in San Luis province in the central part of Argentina. This city with a population of approximately 96,700 inhabitants is surrounded by the plains.
The region experiences a typically continental climate with extreme temperatures. Summers are very hot with temperatures ranging between 35°C–43°C, while winters are pleasant with the temperature averaging at 12°C.
A fortress was built here in the middle of the nineteenth century to protect the city from attacks by aboriginal tribes. With the expansion of the railway and a train connection with Buenos Aires, the town started developing rapidly as it attracted many immigrants.
Today, Villa Mercedes is an important industrial and commercial centre and is also home to a part of the San Luis University.
