Bolivia hosts festivals throughout the year. Achocalla is a celebration of heritage and traditional music and folklore. The best known of the various festivals found in the country is the Carnaval de Oruro, a colourful display of Bolivian culture.
Religion is very important to the Bolivians. Semana Santa in April and the festival of El Gran Poder (the Great Power) are celebrated with equal diligence and fervour. Santisima Trinidad, San Antonio, and Corpus Christie are all celebrated in the month of June. Saints are honoured throughout the year, including the Patron Saint of Moxos in July and San Joaquin in August.
The elaborate ritual of Inti Raymi, or the solemn feast of the sun, was brought back to life about half a century ago and is recreated every year at the summer equinox.
