Oruro city is located in the Andes Mountains in Bolivia. The city is one of the high altitude cities of Bolivia and is very cold. The city is located at an elevation of 3706 meters above the sea level. The latest population census indicates that the city has around 216,660 residents, out of which around 90 percentages is said to be of indigenous heritage. The city is the folklore capital of Bolivia. The city was founded in the year 1606 and within a short time the city became a prosperous mining town. The city has an abundant resource of silver and other metals. This made the city one of the richest cities of South America and the second largest country next to Potosi. Oruro city lies in southern hemisphere. Summer stars from November and extends up to March. Summer is warmer and receives maximum rainfall. Due to the location in the high altitude the windy weather conditions makes the city a chilled one. Winter starts form April and ends in October. This season is typically cool and the temperature can fall down to zero degrees Celsius during the season.
