Santa Cruz serves as an excellent base camp for visitors who wish to visit the many tourist attractions that surround it. The city moves at a very leisurely pace and is a good place to catch up on some relaxation. There is also a vibrant nightlife, especially on weekends.
The Municipal Zoo features many exotic birds, reptiles and mammals and is considered to be one of the best zoos in Bolivia. Visitors, who wish to experience the beauty of the flora and fauna of this region in more natural surroundings, should head towards the Parque Nacional. The park has some amazing natural landscapes and is home to many exotic animals.
Visitors can learn more about the natural history of this area at the Museo de Historia Natural. A more vivid historical experience can be had at El Fuerte de Samaipata, a sprawling complex of Incan ruins that has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Jesuit Missions around the city are a big tourist attraction.
