Cuiabá acts a gateway for ecotourism to the Amazon and the Pantanal and is usually a stop for those travelling to the famous Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, not too far away from this city.
Cuiabá is host to several museums such as the Ramis Bucair Museum of Stones, where in addition to stones, there are 4,000 archaeological exhibits. The old town of Cuiabá must be visited to take in the history of this region. There is the Church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, which was built by the African slaves in the eighteenth-century and located on Praça do Rosário (public square) is the Capela de São Benedito, a colonial structure.
Visit in the month of June to experience the unique festival of São Benedito, a religious Afro-Brazilian festival.
