Iracema is an Indian Heroin from the novel of romantic literature Jose de Alencar, Iracema, legend of Ceara, published in Brazil in 1865. Statue of Iracema is located in Fortaleza as a monument to the beautiful native Indian heroin. The beach of Iracema is named after her name. The statue is one of the famous tourist attractions in Fortaleza. The statue depicts Iracema with the arrow in Hand, aimed at the Portuguese warrior before her and holding her son Moacir, a symbol of the love of the Indian and white man. The statue is built on Mucuripe Beach, where Iracema waited on a boat for the return of her lover. A few years ago, a New Statue of Iracema, made in metal is put to exhibition in the Iracema Beach. It is one of the most popular as well as important landmarks of Fortaleza. Moreover, the statue of Iracema depicts the significance and popularity of the novel of Jose de Alencar.
