Known as the Museum of Discovery because of the discovery of Brazil by the Portuguese in 1500, the Porto Seguro Museum is housed in an old building formerly known as the Porto Seguro House of Representatives and jail. A signature of the Bahia history, the museum building is well preserved and was built by the Jesuits in 1722. The exhibits contain artifacts of how the Portuguese discovered Brazil and many other educational and cultural programs.
