Galeão - Antônio Carlos Jobim International Airport, also known as Galeao International Airport is Rio de Janeiro’s leading international airport.
It is situated on the Governador Island and is around 20-km from the city centre. The second name of the airport is in honour of the notable Brazilian musician, Antônio Carlos Jobim. Currently it is the fourth busiest airport in the country.
The airport contains 2 terminals in an elliptical format, each fitted with 12 jet ways. They are capable of handling around 7.5 million passengers per year.
The runway has a length of 4,240 meters and is Brazil’s longest runway. The prime facilities include a multi-cuisine restaurant, various shops, including a duty-free one, restaurants and cafes as well as tourist information centres.
The airport connects Rio to over eighteen countries and connects with the rest of Brazil via domestic flights.
Prime names in International airlines include Aerolineas Argentinas, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Air France and British Airways. Domestic airlines include Gol, OceanAir and TAM Brazilian Airlines.
