One such place to visit whilst in Salvador is Mercado Modelo, where one can get to buy local craft products apart from Afro Brazilian cult objects. There are also other curiosity related items ready to buy. This market is situated in the old Custom House on Praca Visconde de Cairu and was rebuilt in 1984, after a fire. This place was a commercial center of the city.
