Vitória is famous for its beaches, and a well-frequented beach is Camburi, commonly used for leisurely walks and jogs. A more active beach is the Canto beach with restaurants, bars and sports facilities. The adventurous can head to Ilha do Frade (Friar’s island) or Ilha do Boi (Ox Island) for various water sports.
Within the city, the São Gonçalo church, built in the Jesuit colonial style, and the Metropolitan Cathedral, built in the Gothic style, are worth seeing. The Anchieta Palace is a wonderful display of Jesuit architecture. The Chapel of Santa Luzia, the first building on the island, is presently an art gallery and must be visited.
Those interested in history can visit the Solar Monjardim Museum housed in an eighteenth-century mansion, a fine example of rural Brazilian architecture.
For a panoramic aerial view of the city, head to the Morro da Fonte Grande (Hill of the Great Spring).
