Tourist Guide Easter Island
An isolated triangular speck in the South Pacific, Easter Island or Rapa Nui is home to beauty and mystery. Made of volcanic rock, it has three volcanoes Poike, Rano Kau and Terevaka and has a perilous black coastline that offers few nooks for anchorage.
With a sub-tropical climate and year-round, sporadic rainfall, Rapa Nui can be visited at any time of the year; summer temperatures range between 15°C and 28°C; winter temperatures fall between 14°C and 22°C.
It is said that the first inhabitants of this island were Polynesians and that centuries later, South Americans settled here. Today, it has a population of about 3,800 60% of which are Rapanui (Polynesian) and 40% are Chilean. Heritage tourism is the main industry, while other occupations that people are engaged in include agriculture, fishing and artwork.
