Chile has a market-oriented economy, dependent mainly on foreign trade. Home to the largest copper producing company CODELCO, Chile’s exports are hence dominated by copper. Important non-mineral exports include forestry and food products.

Chile was considered to be one of the most inexpensive places to travel to. With an increase in the inflation in the tourism sector, this has changed. The average cost of staying in a mid-range hotel is 14 € to 30 €.
