Situated in one of the oases which are found in the high plateaus of Chile’s second region is the small village of San Pedro de Atacama. The region is famous for some of the volcanoes.
San Pedro is one of the main centers of Atacama Culture and has a population of 2,500. San pedor is considered as the Chile’s Archeological Centre. The village has acute geographical position and is blessed with eternal Blue sky and beautiful landscape.
The region has desert like climate in Altiplano and is labeled with Thermic Oscillation. The highest temperature in summer is around 27ºC with occasional rains during nights. The lowest temperature in winters is 4ºC. It is believed that the "atacameños" (People from Atacama) were the founders of the culture of the village some 11,000 years ago in the “puna” region and the Atacama Desert gorges. Small farming and tourist trade are the main economic activities of San Pedro.
