La Moneda is the official seat of the President of the Republic of Chile housing three cabinet minister’s offices. These include Interior, General Secretariat of the Government and the General Secretariat of the Presidency. This place is a palace which occupies an entire block in downtown Santiago in Civic District. The name, Moneda means coin and is known by the name a colonial mint designed by Joaquin Toesca, an Italian architect. The construction of this site began in 1784 and got opened for public in 1805. This palace is the most recognizable landmark in the city.
