Visitors should watch out for robbery and petty crime such as pick-pocketing.
There have been many cases of these and it is wise not to display large amounts of cash and jewellery.
For any offence you may have committed, never try to bribe in Chile, as this is a serious offence and can be punished by imprisonment.
The north side of the Santiago Cathedral is famous for its facilities for very cheap international calls, but it is recommended never to use such services as the operators tap into lines illegally, charging some other person for the call made by you.
Many tourists suffer from altitude sickness, especially when on Valle Nevado, as it is very high.
If visitors experience any uneasiness, they should move back to lower altitude before the condition worsens.
In Santiago downtown it is better not to carry large amounts of cash as there is a major threat of pickpockets.
It is also advised to store cash in different pockets of your clothing.
