The Parque Metropolitano, is home to Cerro San Cristobal. You can reach it by the funicular, from here you can enjoy a beautiful view over the city. In the park there is also a botanical garden and a zoo.
Santiago Centro, (Downtown), this area is good for a stroll down some of its Paseos. The capital’s main plaza is Plaza de Arma, this is the area of major historical importance.
We recommend to visit the Cerro Santa Lucia a park with fountains and stairs which at the summit has a great view. Charles Darwin visited this peak at one point in his travels.
In the city you can find fresh seafood like mussels, clams with rice. The “Empanadas”, with cheese or meat, are common. The most famous dish is “Pastel de Choclo” a beef and chicken pie topped with a sweet corn mixture.
The climate in Santiago is warm with annual average temperature of 15°C (20°C in January), and annual average rainfall of 346 mm.
